Running remote workshops
At the agency we were able to easily adapt the methodologies we used in person to a fully digital, remote format. The platform covers a wide range of possibilities:
- It can be used for user testing, for example with the “5-second test” methodology, which we set up for the optimisation of the WWF France website
- The co-design of a user journey map with the project teams at MAIF, on a topic related to Legal Design
- Co-sketching with a London-based client, to design an app for managing wine and spirits cellars
- And lots of other possible uses, such as card sorting, ideation workshops, the User Centered Design Canvas, and so on.
It is also a very useful tool for sharing work in progress and gathering feedback from project teams asynchronously.
Small details that make all the difference
To help you optimise how you use Miro, we’re sharing our experience and a few interesting tips we use day to day (which save us a lot of time 😱).
Creating a batch of sticky notes
Want to create a batch of sticky notes? For example, a list of items to sort into a specific category. Miro saves you time with the Bulk mode feature.
🎯 Tip: just select this option in the toolbar and type the names of the items one after the other.
Aligning elements with one another
You quickly find yourself overwhelmed by all the sticky notes (and other elements) that participants stick on virtually. To make things clearer, you may be tempted to tidy up by hand, but that can quickly become long and tedious. Here again, Miro makes life easier with this option to automatically align elements with one another.
🎯 Tip: select the elements with your mouse, an icon appears at the top right of the selection area. Click on it, and the elements align automatically.
Importing data directly from a spreadsheet (Excel / Google Sheets or Numbers)
Already have the data compiled in a spreadsheet? Save time with surprising ease.
🎯 Tip: just copy the cells and paste them directly into Miro. Each cell is then automatically turned into a sticky note.
Turning paper sticky notes into virtual sticky notes
Got a whiteboard full of good ideas on real paper sticky notes? Take a photo of it and let the magic happen with the “Stickies capture” feature.
🎯 Tip: select the “Stickies capture” feature in the toolbar and let yourself be guided.
Using the comment feature
One of the big plus points of Miro is the ability to work asynchronously. Want members of a project team to share their thoughts on the work done without crowding the board with sticky notes?
🎯 Tip: just use the “comment” feature, which lets you place comments on specific elements of the Miro board. And that’s not all, you can mention people, reply to comments, turn on notifications, and so on.
A feature that turns out to be very useful in an iterative way of working.
Filtering object types
Need to change the colour of the arrows used on your board? Want to delete only the sticky notes? To save you time and avoid selecting each element by hand, you can use the feature for filtering selected object types (shape, sticky note, text, image, and so on).
🎯 Tip: select all the components, and you just need to filter on the desired component type.
